The kindle securely clips into the leather cover allowing you to open the cover like a book. You can flip the front cover clear around to the back if you wish giving you a tablet to hold, or you can hold it like an open book. I just hope the spine holds up with heavy usage. It seems to be pretty durable. Looks and feels great. Both front and back are rigid providing ample protection. If you want something to protect the kindle from being dropped in the water, this wouldn't be it as the kindle is not fully enclosed when the cover is closed.

Excellent to cover and protect your kindle.
It is easy to clamp a light, I would only suggest a hook to keep it closed when you do not read your kindle.

The Leather Cover presents a professional appearance such that it can be taken anywhere without fear of it being intrusive. The smart looking Amazon logo hugs the lower right corner and is not offensive to the eye...though I'd like it more if the logo were smaller.
