Easy to set up, works great September 2, 2010 D. Clark Had this set up in about five minutes ... followed the Quick Start guide, and boom, it was done.
I have this range extender upstairs, two floors away from the router in the basement. Without the extender, I was getting -70 to -75 RSSI on my iPod Touch. With the extender, I get -30 to -35. Now I can stream Netflix without videos freezing up.
I've seen other reviews complaining about the network dropping. I'll be back to update this review with my experiences.
Working fine and no setup issues August 31, 2010 Larry Esquire (Birmingham, AL) I had read the previous reviews before buying this product, and was prepared to go through the manual setup steps if I had issues programming the device. I have a NetGear Dual Channel a/b/g/n router that transmits in both the 2 and 5 Ghz range. I used the setup disk and followed the instructions to set up the range extender. The device recognized the wireless network operating in the 2 Ghz range, but it did not find the 5 Ghz network. (Perhaps it does not scan in that frequency range??) I could only extend one of the networks with this device anyway, so I selected the 2 Ghz network, and completed the setup. I then disconnected the device and moved it to an appropriate location, powered it up, and it is working just fine. I had no setup issues, and the wifi range in my house is vastly improved. I know some others have not had the same easy experience I have, but I really had no issues, and would highly recommend the device.
seems to work okay August 31, 2010 G. Feulmer (Hunt, NY) This product seems to work okay. The reason I do not give it a great review is that I am having problems in the network. I am not sure of the cause. I often cannot access the internet until I reset the modem and router. Hawking blames the modem from Time Warner and Time Warner blames the Hawking router. It is annoying that people like to blame eachother and no one really wants to help me solve the problem. When it works, it works great. When I have to reset a few times a week, it becomes annoying.
Works Well BUT... August 30, 2010 Hugh L. Scott (Breckenridge, Co USA) If you are modestly capable at setting up routers, this is a pretty good product that works very well. The main caveat is that the setup wizard doesn't work for a lot of people, me included (Windows 7 Pro / WRT54G). For me at least, the fix was straightforward: Go into manual configuration, associate the extender with the host router and do a manual wireless connect. Read some of the other reviews to get some sense of how to do this and keep in mind that different routers will assign different IP addresses to the extender while it is in a wired connection (Mine ended up at 192.168.1.115). Its a shame the setup wizard doesn't work since it seems to do the "hard" stuff well but blows it on pushing the the wireless connect button.
