Product Description Create a wireless network to share high-speed Internet access with computers, game consoles, or media players from greater distances in your home or office. Using D-Link Xteme-N wireless products makes it really easy! The D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme N Gigabit Router is a draft 802.11n compliant device that delivers up to 14x faster speeds and 6x farther range than 802.11g while staying backward compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b devices. Connect the Xtreme N Gigabit Router to a cable or DSL modem and provide high-speed Internet access to multiple computers, game consoles, and media players. Create a secure wireless network to share photos, files, music, videos, printers, and network storage. With some routers, all wired and wireless traffic, including VoIP, Video Streaming, Online Gaming, and Web browsing are mixed together into a single data stream. By handling data this way, applications like video streaming could pause or delay. With D-Link's Intelligent QoS Technology, wired and wireless traffic is analyzed and separated into multiple data streams. These streams are then categorized by sensitivity to delay, so applications like VoIP, Video Streaming, and Online Gaming are given priority over Web browsing. This enables multiple applications to stream smoothly to your TV or PC. Delivering best-in-class performance, network security, and coverage, this router is the ideal centerpiece for your wireless network in the home or office. Backward compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b devices including game consoles and digital media players

Very good Wi-Fi router March 14, 2010 C. McDonald This is the second wireless router that I have purchased, about the 8th I have worked with and I really do like it a lot. My previous router was a Linksys, and while it performed well, I found it to be a bit buggy at times. Even programming it with a static IP address didn't seem to remedy it's penchant for losing connectivity and requiring a re-boot.
The D-Link was very easy to configure, and security setup was a breeze. It works great with my Windows 7 machine and so far I have not experienced an issue with connectivity (About 3 weeks).
The unit has not gotten hot for me so far, but I do have it in an open air environment, as you should always try to do.
Speed is superior to my Linksys 54G, but that unit is a little dated as the D-Link utilizes wireless-N and the Linksys utilized wireless G protocol. So the comparison is a bit unfair.
Appearance wise, I have to agree with one reviewer that stated the led's are very bright. They are, but I don't use my PC in the dark, so it really isn't an issue for me.
In all, a very good router for the money, easy setup and works with WIndows 7. Very good speed.
Good router for the $$$$$ March 13, 2010 JimC (IL.) Setup is a breeze less than 30 minutes. Runs cool maybe the user that complained about overheating never removed the plastic wrap, kind of hard to see. I've been using the router for a week with no disconnect's. Much better than my old Netgear G router. The USB SharePort Utility is kind of buggy. I'm trying to connect a seagate external backup drive. Sometimes it works fine other times it will not connect. Can't figure out what makes it not connect. I'll update once I solve the problem with USB SharePort Utility.
Best Router I've Ever Owned March 11, 2010 M. Hathaway (Fort Worth, TX) The most reliable, expandable and customizable router I have ever worked with. Having trained on a number of Linksys routers at Cisco Networking Academy, I have come to appreciate this DLink that I have owned for more than a year.
PROS:
* Its fast: can stream video over network
* The firmware allows you to customize its operation: firewalls, access lists, wifi security(ssid broadcasting, wep/wpa2, login passwords, mac address filtering), static and dhcp ip addressing, automatic ntp server sync, port forwarding, website filters, qos, guest zone etc
* Its reliable: has never malfunctioned and has worked the best with my not so reliable isp service. Can automatically reestablish dhcp parameters if motorola modem goes offline. My older linksys could not do this. Will also work with combo modem/routers (such as netgear) as long as said device has wireless disabled.
* Its expandable: compatible with most nonconfigurable switches from major brands (dlink, linksys, netgear etc). Will support NAS storage (including video streaming & super-fast file transfer). Will support network & wireless printers & print servers. Please note NAS storage & printers must have static ip addresses to work.
CONS: (very few)
* Firmware upgrades are a challenge, but so are those for most routers. Must be directly connected to router, then must backup configuration to computer (includes settings), then download firmware onto pc, then load firmware onto router (please be extremely patient while firmware installs), then load backup configuration back onto router.
