5 out of 5 stars One of the best car kits   October 27, 2009

This is the 2nd one I have purchased. We don't need a lot of features. Caller ID is good, sound is excellent. We have tested many bluetooth speakerphones and this one come out on top. Another very good one is Jabra SP200 with it's big answer button and huge volume wheel. I wouldn't have a problem using either one.

4 out of 5 stars Good unit, a few bumps   August 30, 2008

I've owned the Dual BTV30 for 5 weeks, now. It's my first speakerphone but my second bluetooth device - my Plantronics bluetooth earphone works great, but I didn't want to have one ear plugged all the time.

The Dual snaps into an oval recess in a metal visor clip with dual super-magnets and the recess keeps the unit tight to the clip. The only twisting is the clip-to-visor and I've added some rubber to the clip to fix that. I had no issues with "rattle". It's not a small, slim unit, but at less than 6" x 3" x 1" it's also not obtrusive.

The left 2/3 of the unit hinges open to turn on and folding it flat turns the unit off. This hinged panel holds the display screen and the microphone and the hinging allows the one-line display to be read easier and the microphone to be positioned better. When the screen is opened, the unit turns on and graphics display battery level, volume and bluetooth level - with beeps. The display is BRIGHT, but after (1 minute) the screen blanks, leaving a very small narrow slow-blinking light that's not obtrusive at night.

The volume is loud enough (I keep it at MAX), but I also have a noisy car. The Dual does have and earphone jack, but sometimes for very detailed conversations at freeway speeds, I switch to the bluetooth headset (that IS why we use bluetooth and not a cord !). For normal driving the volume is fine. Comments from called people vary from "very clear" to "kind of noisy" - for freeway calls.

The unit is controlled by 3 buttons and a center jog knob that tilts left, right and pushes in. Contacts can be entered manually with the center knob, one letter and number at a time (I have painfully entered only 7) but the Dual also supports Object Push (if your phone has that feature) to "push" your phone book into the Dual and that's MUCH faster !

The contacts cannot be scrolled so there's no way of seeing all your contacts - pushing the knob left displays the alphabet one letter at a time, then the unit displays the contacts beginning with that letter. This is so tedious that I usually just unlock the phone and use it to call. Pushing the knob to the right displays the 5 last-called numbers. The center button is a "hot key" for one number that is called often. The Dual supports voice dialing if your phone also does.

It also has call holding, call waiting, transfer and last number redial and a few ring tones.

Battery life is excellent, however I am not a "power user". I charge about every other week.

Overall I really like the Dual BTV30. Power users would want to use voice dialing and object push for their contacts. For me, it works great and it was considerable less expensive than the other brand name units advertised.

5 out of 5 stars Good unit, good price   July 21, 2008

I purchased this product from Newegg for $59. I have had it for about three weeks now. It works as advertised. The speakerphone works very well and is quite loud and clear with the volume set at three bars out of five. No problem connecting to my LG TRAX cell phone at all. Your phonebook can be loaded to it from your cell, however it done one entry at a time. This was fine for me as my cell does not have the capability to send the complete list at one time. When a call comes in, the unit displays the caller ID number, or if the caller is in the phonebook, it displays the caller name from the phonebook. Note however, the number in the phonebook must be exactly the same as the way the caller id is sent by the phone company (with area code). The unit only comes with a car charger. That means you have to leave the car ignition on to cahrge it. This is really no problem because I ordered an AC to 12v DC converter over the internet for less than $5 including shipping. I recommend this product as a good deal for the money.
